Community Outreach
Situated as it is in an urban area St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is surrounded by crying human needs. In the shadow of the condominiums of Coconut Grove live the hungry, the homeless, the addicted and those afflicted with HIV and AIDS. The St. Stephen’s Art & Craft Show helps to fund the important outreach efforts of the parish, both near and far. Over the past ten years, beverage sales proceeds have allowed the Art Show to contribute approximately $100,000 to the St. Stephen’s AIDS Ministry. In 2008 the St. Stephen’s Art & Craft Show has decided to implement a $1 admission charge to enable even greater charitable giving. Also new in 2008 is the inclusion of the Lotus House among the charities supported by the parish. The Lotus House is a unique residential facility serving women and infants who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Lotus House is not a typical short-term shelter, but a supportive environment where women are nurtured and empowered to improve the quality of their lives, achieve greater self sufficiency, and transition to permanent homes off the streets. To learn more or to donate, please visit the Lotus House booth at the Show or their website at www.lotushouseshelter.org , or call 305 438 0556.
